My journey from 1-1000
I couldn’t image that on August 2025 that I would be stepping into film my thousandth house. It feels almost unreal.
After arriving back in Scotland in Feb 2020 following a year of travelling, with very few resources but excited to start a new chapter, two weeks later lock - down started and we lost our jobs and had to continue living in a small rented bedroom. Fast forward to today and now running a successful business with 1000 houses under my belt including owning my own home. What a journey.
It started on 7th October while climbing local Munro's - Ben Glass and Ben Lawyers a call came in
Daniel Giza? You are a photographer ?
Yes.
Can you photograph a property we would like to sell ?
Without hesitation and without even thinking whether I knew how to do it I said YES! This was the opportunity I had been hoping for and in spite of being up a mountain for a lovely hike with my wife I raced down. It was my first assignment and I couldn’t be happier. I jumped in the car, went to get my camera gear, changed out of my mountain boots and drove straight to the estate agency to collect the keys. I nervously photographed the property hoping that all I had taught myself would make sense, taking time to do it well and taking many shots. I then ran back home and edited everything and delivered it to the property manager before the end of the day. You only have one chance to make a first impression!!
My first agency ( JHMitchell’s) were very pleased with the results and more properties came in all sizes, prices and locations each with a story of its own. Peoples homes are their castles and sacred spaces and each one has a story to tell and so began a great business relationship with my first agency.
Winters are tough in Highland Perthshire and I knew one agency wouldn’t be able to sustain us so I still continued my part time job in website maintenance while teaching myself every evening with tutorials about floor plans, video editing, drone filming.
Each week I would send introductory emails with examples of my work and testimonials to every local estate agency. 3 months later Bell Ingram offered me work. Their properties are often large farm estates in remote areas and so I had the privilege of developing new skills, using my drone, dealing with horses and cows and even filming in ruined buildings without electricity and very little light.
After few months of working with the 2 estate agencies i was contacted by:
Premier Properties Perth
Aberdein Considine
Possible
Property@Hodge
Irving Geddes
Lindsays
Again without hesitation and with a commitment to always deliver quality on time I said yes to them all. The hours editing got longer, instead of two properties per day I was as up to 4, gear needed to be replaced or upgraded. My wife Marta stepped up arranging filming times, helping with camera gear, often supporting clients to get their rooms looking their best. I couldn’t have done it without her. We are a team.
I was even contacted by building developers:
GS Brown and Good House Company.
Today it is with great pride and immense gratitude to the agencies that made the call and the clients that invited me into their home that I proudly I reach my a major milestone - 1000 properties.
1000 homes photographed, filmed, scanned for creating Virtual Tours and 2D Floor Plans.
1000 stories of homes big and small, happy and sad, in cities and in the countryside
I could not be more proud of what I have achieved :) thank you to everyone for believing in me, supporting me and trusting me.
My work has taken me to places i never thought i would visit, from Oban to Aberdeenshire down to Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
My confidence developed and my exposure increased and as a result I have filmed and produced promotional videos and photos, and rebranding for local businesses such as:
Bungee Jumping in Scotland
Splash Rafting
Packrafting Scotland
River Wild Adventures
All the while meeting new people, hearing their stories enjoying new experiences in beautiful places. It’s magical.
Building my business has been extremely hard work but my camera has allowed me to travel to the Pyrenees, Dolomites and remote Scotland.
I have even exhibited my photographs in the Fortingall gallery and Aberfeldy gallery where they are on sale.
From small acorns great oaks grow and every great journey begins with a few small steps.
Here’s to the forests of oaks and many more great journeys .
